The products
TTP has worked for a number of customers on the development of direct and thermal transfer printers. These have included office and consumer products as well as high performance commercial applications like Gerber’s Edge FX colour graphics printer.

Edge FX is an advanced digital printing solution that is designed for sign makers, screen printers and other graphics professionals to produce customised colour graphics.

TTP’s role

Gerber worked with TTP because they needed additional engineering resource and an independent experienced reviewer of their own traditional approach and ideas. Our depth of experience in cost efficient design, use of formal methodologies such as DFX and FMEA, and of course digital print understanding were all crucial to the success of the project.

Before detailed design began, TTP worked with Gerber’s system designers to carry out conceptual analysis of the electronics and software architectures, leading to the development of a completely new electronics and software architecture.

In parallel we produced mechanical and industrial design concepts for the product, working independently. The major functional innovation here was a completely new print media cassette loading system but our biggest objective was to remove cost and improve reliability by simplifying the print mechanism.

Having agreed upon an overall architecture, we went on to carry out mechanical detail design and industrial design, working closely with Gerber’s engineers who handled electronics detailing and software coding.

The product is assembled in-house by Gerber using locally sourced components.
