Principal Biomedical Engineer - Health Tech

  • Location
    Cambridge, United Kingdom

Implantable medical devices bring with them unique challenges and extraordinary opportunities. As a Principal Biomedical Engineer at TTP, you’ll get to explore the edge of discovery by inventing real-world applications. You’ll lead teams to create devices and new technologies that will make a difference to people’s lives. And you’ll get to work with the world’s most ambitious companies on projects that are impactful, interesting, and meaningful.

From the get-go, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers. You could focus on developing neurostimulation devices to deliver new types of therapies to the nervous system – or sensory implants to aid with complex diagnoses and long-term health monitoring. The variety of projects will captivate and retain your interest.

With the support of your project team, you’ll pursue innovative solutions to highly technical problems. It’s about sharing your technical insights and drawing on those of your colleagues - whether you’re defining a new system architecture, reviewing designs, or mentoring colleagues.

You’ll also get to hone your skills in project leadership through new product development programs. This means you’ll be the main point of contact between the client and the technical team. It’ll involve regular pivoting between contrasting tasks – from presenting to key client stakeholders through to supporting junior colleagues in the lab.

This is a fantastically agile role that goes beyond the realm of traditional Biomedical engineering.

Have you made significant technical or scientific innovations in the design and development of active embedded neurostimulation implants? Are you familiar with the design of Implantable Pulse Generators (IPG’s)? Do you have a track record of creating and delivering development programs, from initial conception and prototyping, through to transfer to manufacture?

If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to those questions, it’s also likely you’re familiar with the regulatory pathways (EUMDR or FDA). Although this isn’t a role for a regulatory specialist, your experience of working within Class 3 Medical Device frameworks will prove invaluable.

To excel in this role, it’s likely you’ll be building on 3 years+ experience of research and development in the electronic aspects of biomedical engineering. You might have gained this insight into how electronic engineering interfaces with the body via a PhD or commercial research.

It’s also important to note that the role of consultant engineer at TTP suits a commercial mindset. You’ll find opportunities to use your market insight to uncover and nurture valuable new commercial prospects for TTP.
