Principal Scientist - LEX Diagnostics

We are looking to recruit an experienced physicist to drive ongoing development of the core thermocycling technology in our disruptive molecular diagnostic technology.

LEX Diagnostics is a spin-out business from TTP (The Technology Partnership), Europe’s leading independent technology development consultancy. We have a world class diagnostic technology that enables rapid detection of respiratory viruses such as COVID and influenza in only five minutes. The role

We are seeking a talented applied physicist or engineer to become the subject-matter-expert for the key thermal, optical and electrical principles that underpin the LEX system. You will join a talented multi-disciplinary R&D team spanning microfluidics, molecular biology, electronics, software and mechanical engineering. Responsibilities will include:

  • Improving performance and solving problems by application of physical principles
  • Development of analytical and computational models
  • Design and execution of experiments to verify the results of models
  • Collaboration with the manufacturing team to inform process development and manufacturing tolerances as we scale-up production
  • Collaboration with the biology team to enable next-generation variants of the technology as it is applied to broader applications and used in more challenging environments worldwide
  • Input into the preparation of patents for improvements to LEX technology


About you

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • A PhD with a substantial experimental element in physics or a related technical discipline from a world-class university
  • A deep understanding of fundamental physical principles and the ability to apply these principles to real world problems
  • A hands-on attitude - you like taking theories into the lab and putting them to the test
  • Communication skills - you enjoy collaborating and presenting your work to others and explaining why it matters to them

Candidates with greater experience will increasingly fulfil these additional requirements:

  • Experience with COMSOL and/or other multi-physics modelling tools
  • Use of thermal modelling in challenging real-world applications
  • Application of physics to the life science instrumentation or medical devices
  • Experience with optical systems, especially fluorescence detection
