Cellular Highways is building the next generation of cell sorter instruments for cell therapies, cancer treatment and other biotech applications. With our invention of a new microfluidics sorting technology, vortex actuated cell sorting (VACS), we can reduce the cost and complexity of cell sorting and achieve far greater throughput than existing platforms. Our aim is to make cell sorting accessible to every laboratory as well as enabling new clinical applications.

We are a spin-out company from TTP plc (The Technology Partnership) an established technology consulting firm with a successful track record of launching new businesses with disruptive technologies.

We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated Test Engineer with a passion for hand-on technical development to join our expanding team.

The Test Engineer will be an integral part of the Product Development team and responsible for developing verification testing protocols, supervising, and performing testing, report writing, and helping translate product requirements into clear technical test specifications. Main tasks include set-up, optimisation and transfer-to-production of instruments and single-use consumables.

As well as top-class technical aptitude, the right candidate will also possess broad, natural curiosity and strong inter-personal skills required to flourish within a strong, multi-disciplinary team. Our team comprises experts in diverse fields including optics, microfluidics, mechanical engineering, biotech and software and you will enjoy working collaboratively to apply your testing skills alongside them to solve the key challenges of our application. You will relish the opportunity that we can offer to take on real ownership and responsibility for key aspects of our product development.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Set up and test prototype product hardware and software to understand performance and identify issues
  • Collect, analyse and present test data to inform development decisions
  • Support the quick resolution of customer issues by investigating root causes
  • Assist with the improvement of build and test processes for production
  • Other tasks as required for the delivery of reliable products to our customers


We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate that they are:

  • Degree qualified in an engineering or related discipline
  • Skilled in the testing of complex, high precision instrumentation and systems
  • Experienced in working within a quality management system (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 13485)
  • Proficient in operating lab equipment and following lab practices
  • An effective team player who interacts well with colleagues across the company
  • Flexible in selecting a rigorous or pragmatic testing approach to fit the situation
  • Enthusiastic about product reliability and continuous improvement
  • User-focussed; keen to ensure an excellent user experience
  • Hands-on and practical with the ability to solve problems as they arise
  • Eager to tackle new challenges
