'No two projects are the same. Each new client requires different skills and an alternative way of thinking. This constant challenge is stimulating and exciting. In fact, it never ceases to amaze me how many different problems we can apply our knowledge to, from small medical devices to dishwashers and even oil rigs. Even some of the most commonly used every day products have fascinating technical developments behind them.'
Every TTP employee is expected to take responsibility for his or her own work. Unlike other organisations, everyone gets to agree timelines and deliverables directly with the client.
'We determine our career focus and goals. This freedom to choose and to take complete responsibility for our professional development is empowering and fulfilling. Working for TTP is like getting paid to be an entrepreneur.'
'TTP is people - so our performance is what the company depends on.'

'I am essentially an inventor at heart, an inventor who loves solving complex problems in a logical and cogent manner. At TTP, I get to do this for a living. I am presented with diverse projects, each with different needs and specific outcomes. I get to work on the solution. It is very satisfying seeing a complicated issue being resolved.'
TTP has a flat hierarchy and does not have specific groups or teams that only work on certain projects. Joe believes that this encourages a team ethos and a greater willingness to share skills and expertise.
'Unlike other organisations, at TTP there is no culture of focusing on how to get a promotion or to climb the corporate ladder. Everyone works hard because they are passionate about what they do, their work and clients.'
Observing and talking to potential users of a product is an important part of what we do. Particularly with medical devices, you often need to think about multiple different users and stakeholders. You may find yourself in an operating room trying to understand how we might improve a surgical procedure or in a focus group with a family talking about the future of household appliances.'
'When we come back to the office I really enjoy trying to make sense of it all.'
Here I get to work on a wide range of real applied physics projects. Most of our group’s work is on medical devices and I spend my time designing and carrying out experiments, analysing data, performing calculations, conducting literature reviews and writing proposals.
In some cases you’re starting new projects every eight weeks. You learn so much, so intensively, that it’s very stimulating, but it does require a lot of focus and attention.’
'Recently, I’ve been involved with a diagnostic product, looking at how liquids interact with different types of plastics. Before that I researched energy-based healing therapies for an orthopaedic company. I’ve also done detailed experimental analyses, for example of a new inhaler technology, and I have analysed hypodermic needle designs to optimise their performance.'
If you think you're the right fit for TTP apply here.
Over this time there have been constant opportunities to learn and develop my skill set. I hadn’t worked with embedded software before, so I’ve been on a programming course to develop the necessary skills. Since then I’ve been involved in writing software for our pump and spray technologies in the Applied Sciences group.'
'I am, by no means, stuck behind a desk. There is an ethos to try your hand at whatever interests you, from hands-on lab work to client-facing activity, project management and – important for me – developing my business skills.'

Richard’s multi-disciplinary expertise in mechanical, software and electronic design has been key to the success of his clients. He has worked on products as diverse as hair straighteners to lighting controllers and has seen many developments become patented in the UK and abroad.
Richard has successfully managed the smart lighting project from conception, through budgeting, planning, production and successful manufacture. Now, 25% of Richard’s time is spent in the business development of the smart energy market sector.
'Working at TTP allows me to combine my two passions; engineering and business development. I thoroughly enjoy being able to oversee a project from conception to manufacturing. But I equally get a buzz from going out and finding new projects.'
Richard believes that TTP’s flat structure is very motivating and he cites it as one of the reasons why he has stayed with the company since leaving university.
'Everyone here is highly intelligent and has an entrepreneurial spirit so there’s no need to manage people when they want to go out and be successful. The atmosphere is collaborative and supportive. We don’t compete for new fancy job titles, we simply work together to do the best job.'
Inside TTP is an environment where excellence and high professional standards are expected. Commercial drive is coupled with the desire to create new technologies and push the bouncdaries of science to generate valuable business opportunities.
