Presentation: Is it possible to make existing buildings smart? 13:00 - 13:30, 20 June 2018
- Focus on retrofit; it’s much easier to integrate “smart” into new buildings but most buildings are in second use
o “as used” is usually very different to “as built”
- Many sensors available – light, movement, CO2, portal open/close, temperature, sound level etc. but all need power
o Connecting power more expensive than the sensor, wireless backhaul is usually unreliable
o Importance of the last 6ft. What are the solutions? Discuss some examples
- Avoid new sensors - need to maximise the use of existing data being collected
o Open BIM vs. individual manufacturer c vs. security and interworking
- Examples of innovative smart control and monitoring ideas from universities and concept products
Speaker: Chris Hole, TTP Consultant
