Mechanical Design Engineer

Description

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will apply your skills and expertise to a range of exciting and fast-moving projects in our Energy & Materials team.

We work with clients in all aspects of industrial sustainability and the energy transition, including hydrogen electrolysers, energy storage systems, green ammonia production and carbon capture. We engage across all stages of technology, process, and product development, from early-stage innovation through to complete system implementation.

In this role you will work on a range of mechanical design challenges, using your engineering knowledge and mechanical design skills and experience to identify and develop solutions to real-world problems across a range of industries and scales – from small devices and instruments through to complex large-scale electromechanical and chemical systems.

Requirements

We welcome applications from experienced Mechanical Designers with a desire to move into a fast-paced innovative environment.

  • Highly proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD package and preferably relevant modules such as Routing, Weldments, Sheetmetal, Solid modelling, Surface modelling, Render tools and PDM.
  • Mechanical design experience of product and system development in a high-tech industry.
  • Experience in designing skid and container scale industrial equipment is valuable in this role, for example in the oil and gas, chemical or hydrogen industries.
  • A strong degree in Engineering or related discipline, gained either by degree or vocational route.
  • Experience working with pressurised systems and in regulated environments is desirable.
  • Able to construct tolerance analyses and use appropriate analytical techniques to aid your design work.
  • Wide range of design experience which may include special purpose machinery, products, assembly jigs, test equipment or instrumentation and hands-on ability to build, test and troubleshoot. 
  • Able to present early design ideas through sketches, and communicate designs via animations or renderings.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing techniques and material finishes, including design for manufacture (DFM).

There’ll be a couple of stages to your interview

There are two stages to our interview process for graduates, and one stage for interns. For both of those roles, there are usually a number of one-to-one interviews with our consultants. We focus on your technical abilities and consumer awareness and use our interviews to see how you’d fit into TTP.

We hold our interviews at TTP Campus in Melbourn

On the outskirts of Cambridge. The interview process is usually around a couple of hours and it’ll include technical problem-solving style questions.

We’ll cover expenses for your interview

Which includes cost of your return travel to the interview. If you need to stay overnight in Melbourn, let us know in advance and we can organise something.

After the interviews, you’ll hear back from us in a few days

It’ll normally take a few weeks to finish the interviews, but this can sometimes take a little longer depending on how busy we are.

If you fit the criteria, we can cover relocation costs up to £20,000
