Pharma, biotech and the drug delivery industries gather annually at Partnership Opportunities in Drug Delivery (PODD®) to assess delivery needs and learn about a wide range of innovative drug delivery technologies that could improve the delivery of various types of drugs. PODD provides business development opportunities through organized networking and a partnering tool for new, emerging and established collaborations.

Dan Lock, TTP’s Design insight & strategy lead, will be presenting on Day 1, Monday 16 October, Track 3A: Connected Devices, Wearables & Other Novel Devices at 2:30 pm (EDT).

Presentation title: Designing for human nature: what makes a truly engaging drug delivery solution?

Increasing trends such as moving healthcare into the home and the emerging battleground of GLP-1 drugs to treat weight loss, all point towards an unprecedented rise in the number of people using drug delivery systems for the first time.

While ease of use and reliability are clearly critical to device success, another piece of the puzzle that is often overlooked is how device design can either drive engagement or push users away.

In this session, we will discuss principles and methods for designing drug delivery solutions that deeply engage patients by meeting their true needs and fitting into their lives. We will share our approach to designing for engagement that focuses on patient motivation and making the desired actions easy, intrinsically rewarding and habit-forming.

Engagement requires empathy, scientific rigor and patience. With proper understanding of your users and their context, you can build drug-delivery solutions that provide lasting value and healthy outcomes. Drawing on research in psychology and human-centered design, TTP has adopted a framework to create drug delivery devices that work with human nature rather than against it. Our methods help transform theoretical engagement into practical reality.

We hope you leave inspired to create solutions that are accepted as part of people’s lives, not just burdensome reminders of their disease.
