Head of Manufacturing

Cellular Origins

Cell therapies have been shown to cure devastating diseases like cancer by reprogramming a patient’s own immune system, offering hope where there was none before. Giving more patients access to these life-saving therapies requires a revolution in manufacturing and process automation.

We’re leading the revolution. Our technology tackles the challenges of large-scale production with an elegant robotic automation system that cuts costs, reduces labor, eliminates human error, and boosts efficiency.

Are you a highly experienced, innovative and delivery-focused Manufacturing leader? Come and drive growth at our fast paced, impact-driven venture. This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of building a significant manufacturing capability in a highly meaningful venture from the ground up.

Head of Manufacturing

As Head of Manufacturing at Cellular Origins you’ll be an integral part of our senior leadership team. Reporting to our COO and collaborating closely with our executive leadership team, development teams, external manufacturing partners and supply chain, you’ll drive our manufacturing efforts.

How you’ll make your impact:

Strategic Leadership

  • Visionary Guidance: Guiding and growing all manufacturing activities, from precision robot end-effectors to cell processing modules and integrated factory-scale systems.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategies for outsourced manufacture alongside in-house.

Operational Oversight

  • Facility Management: Plan, equip, oversee, and maintain our state-of-the-art production facilities.
  • Partner Coordination: Manage all external manufacturing partners.

Resource Management

  • Effective Communication: Articulate plans, processes, and progress to colleagues across all levels of the business.
  • Operational Efficiency: Ensure smooth operations and maintain a high standard of productivity.

Team Development

  • Talent Acquisition: Recruit and retain a world-class manufacturing team.
  • Collaboration & Growth: Foster a culture of collaboration and professional development within the team.

Process Improvement

  • Innovative Processes: Drive transfer-to-manufacture and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A) initiatives in partnership with the New Product Development (NPD) team.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement best practices to enhance manufacturing efficiency and quality.

Safety and Compliance

  • Safe Environment: Promote a safe working environment by implementing and enforcing safety protocols.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.

You’re an experienced and collaborative manufacturing leader with strong influencing skills, capable of inspiring teams to excel. You’ll have a knack for bringing people together, motivating everyone toward shared objectives while adeptly resolving disconnects as they arise. Your ability to engage with stakeholders effectively, understanding their influence and interests, will be crucial in ensuring success.

Importantly, you will have a deep, hands-on enthusiasm for advanced manufacturing. We are starting small but growing quickly, so you will relish being hands-on as you build a team around you.

  • Extensive experience in establishing and then overseeing manufacturing capabilities for high-value products, for example special-purpose automation machinery, bio-processing equipment, aerospace or automotive.
  • Proven, effective track record in managing and motivating production teams
  • Working in a highly quality-driven environment, relevant ISO standards (ISO9001, 13485 for example).
  • Direct experience in taking overall responsibility for manufacturing site(s), for example as General Manager or similar roles.
  • Comfortable directing the appropriate implementation of MRP systems such as Oracle or SAP
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a STEM subject.
  • Ideally, some direct experience gained within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or cell-therapy fields.
  • Ability to build and nurture strong and trusting relationships throughout an organisation
  • Ability to assimilate and summarise complex information to facilitate and often make business-critical decisions.
  • Experience in selecting partners and overseeing delivery of significant outsourced development and/or manufacturing activities.

The above list outlines our ideal candidate, but we know some of you may not apply unless you qualify for all requirements. We believe in the power and importance of diversity, both for our community and the success of our business, so please apply if you meet most of our listed capabilities.
