Physics – Summer Internship 2025
Description
Are you looking for an internship that allows you to apply your degree practically in a variety of different market areas? At TTP you could work on anything from calculating the smallest possible medical device, to finding ways of making more sustainable energy forms scalable.
TTP is an independent technology consulting company where scientists and engineers collaborate to invent, design and develop new products and technologies. We partner with the world’s most ambitious companies to address diverse, deep technological problems that enable the creation of advanced products and make a difference to people’s lives.
See some examples of work we’ve done here.
Our Physics summer internship presents the opportunity to join our Energy and Materials Team for a summer. You’ll be working alongside our consultants contributing to exciting live client projects as well as internal TTP initiatives to get hands-on, practical experience in innovative technology and product development.
As TTP is a multi-disciplinary environment, you will work alongside talented people from a wide range of academic backgrounds – from biologists to engineers to physicists – getting to learn from them, whilst also making your own mark on projects.
We are looking for students who are ready to create their own opportunities within TTP. You will have the chance to participate in all areas of the work we do, including time in the lab, joining team meetings and calls with clients.
Requirements
When considering applications, we are looking for individuals with the following:
- Studying towards a 2.1 degree in Physics (the more practical the better)
- Must have completed at least 2 years of study by the time of the start of your internship (so students at the beginning of second year are very welcome to apply)
- Enthusiastic and curious in nature. We want people who love to learn and get to the heart of a problem – and who do so enthusiastically!
- Demonstration of a good grasp of the fundamentals of your discipline and the ability to apply these to understanding and developing new technology.
- Evidence of practical applications of your degree, whether this is through university, previous work experience, or extra-curricular activities.
The length of this internship can be flexible, but we ask for minimum commitment of 8 weeks, starting in July.
Note: we recruit on a rolling basis, reviewing applications as they are submitted. There is no set deadline, but once all positions are filled, the advert will close. We recommend applying early for the best chance, as most places are typically filled by Christmas.
Benefits
TTP is a technical consultancy operating from pleasant surroundings on The Melbourn Science Park, just south of Cambridge. Our working culture encourages entrepreneurship, shared ideas and technical collaboration, while providing you the freedom to do your best work. TTP’s non-hierarchical structure will provide you with the opportunity to take on significant responsibilities.
This is a paid internship (salary competitive). Our benefits include free intern accommodation in central Cambridge (subject to availability), free lunch and all-day fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks; lunchtime clubs, such as board games, squash and the TTP rock band; and discounts and memberships to local sports facilities and the theatre.

Our business revolves around collaborating with one another to tackle genuinely hard problems. Equality and diversity in the workplace are some of the most challenging problems facing society. We can’t profess to be perfect in this regard or to yet have all the answers. But we continuously strive to do better, and we fundamentally believe in the power and importance of diversity – both for our community and for the overall success of our business.
We, therefore, encourage applications from all individuals. Whatever your background, whatever your identity: we would love to hear from you.
